Valencia replaces Andalucía-Cádiz as Spanish stop on SailGP Season 6 tour

Valencia is no stranger to hosting top-tier regattas, having been the chosen venue for the 32nd and 33rd editions of the America’s Cup in 2007 and 2010, respectively.

SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts – who will have fond memories of his role as CEO of the victorious Oracle Racing at the 2010 America’s Cup – said he was delighted to welcome Valencia to the SailGP calendar in Season 6.

“With its sporting heritage and world-class racing conditions, Valencia will become a natural home for SailGP as we continue to grow in Spain. Securing a multi-year commitment is key to delivering a world-class experience for our fans. Following Spain’s Season 4 championship title, it is clear that this nation’s passionate and truly global fanbase is a natural fit for the growth of our league, teams and partners.”

Based around an historic 15th-century port, Valencia also features a top-flight modern marina and the cityscape should offer the perfect backdrop for SailGP’s cutting-edge racing. The choice of Valencia follows four well-attended events in Andalucía-Cádiz.

Diego Botín, driver of Spain’s Los Gallos, said the team was pleased with the choice of Valencia as the venue for its home event on the international calendar. “Los Gallos are coming home, and that is always excellent news,” Botín commented. “We look forward to seeing all our fans this year – and in the years to come.”
