Swiss look to Goodison for AC38 rebuild

British Olympic gold medallist Paul Goodison – a three-time America’s Cup competitor and a triple International Moth world champion - is the new skipper of the Swiss Tudor Team Alinghi challenge for AC38. I sat down with Goodison in Barcelona to get the inside track on his appointment.

JC: So Paul, let's start with congratulations. You have just been announced as the skipper of the Swiss Tudor Team Alinghi 38th America's Cup challenger. How does that feel?

PG: I think the start of any campaign is always super exciting. The last two days, we've been sitting with Ernesto [Bertelli team owner], going through the plans and trying to work out a strategy – and the chance to come in and be so involved is pretty special. I had a similar sort of thing last time with Doug DeVos [co-founder of American Magic].

It very much feels like a really close knit team already. We're quite a small team to start with – and that has its advantages and disadvantages. But, when I look back to some of my other campaigns, when you're at the start and you're a small group, you get quite tight-knit. It feels like a great place to be.

Dave Endean on Alinghi’s start-up mode for AC38 campaign

I check-in with Tudor Team Alinghi’s director for technical and sailing, New Zealand America’s Cup veteran Dave Endean – the man in charge of making sure that in AC38 the Swiss syndicate improves on its somewhat lacklustre performance in the last Cup in Barcelona.
