Iain Jensen revealed as new Emirates Team New Zealand crew member

Emirates Team New Zealand have beefed up their sailing team line-up with the addition of Australian double Olympic medallist Iain Jensen – previously a long-term member of the British GB1 syndicate.

The announcement was teased on social media overnight with a picture of Jensen in the Kiwi team’s kit aboard one of the AC40s and then confirmed in a YouTube short with helmsman Nathan Outteridge confirming his recruitment to the team. Outteridge and Jensen are no strangers to each other, having won gold and silver Olympic medals together in the 49er class.

Jensen was in the news recently after jumping ship from Dylan Fletcher’s British Emirates Team GBR crew to join Tom Slingsby’s Bonds Flying Roos for Season 6 of SailGP. However he missed the opening event in Perth after injuring a knee during pre-regatta training and was replaced by fellow Australian Glenn Ashby for the regatta.

Jensen previously raced as wing trimmer with Outteridge in the Swedish Artemis Racing crew at the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco and the 35th edition in Bermuda, before joining Sir Ben Ainslie's British Challenge for the 36th and 37th America's Cups.

His transfer sees him join fellow Emirates Team New Zealand sailing team members Andy Maloney (NZL), Blair Tuke (NZL), Chris Draper (GBR), Sam Meech (NZL), Jo Aleh (NZL), Seb Menzies (NZL), Josh Armit (NZL), and Jacob Pye (NZL), for the team’s AC38 campaign to win the Cup for what would be a record-setting fourth time.
