Two of sailing’s powerhouse teams have made maiden sails in their respective high-performance raceboats this week.
On Thursday the French syndicate Gitana Edmond de Rothschild eased their brand-new 32-metre Ultim trimaran Gitana 18 off the dock outside their team base in Lorient and headed out for a light-airs look at the spectacular multihull’s equally impressive sail plan.
Meanwhile, down in Auckland, Emirates Team New Zealand got their 38th America’s Cup campaign properly underway on Friday as they took to the Waitematā Harbour for the first time in their newly re-configured AC75 Taihoro.
